To determine if your motherboard is “seeing” all of your RAM, enter your computer’s BIOS. To do so, restart your computer and press the key that appears on your screen while booting (often Delete or F2). Locate the system information section and look for information on the amount of RAM in your computer. Check each RAM stick individually in all slots. If all slots and RAM sticks are working, put all RAM sticks in slots, and run F12 diagnostics just for Memory. It took around 1.5 - 2 hrs for me. System will restart automatically after successful test. Now the total RAM should be visible in BIOS. Thanks @ejn63 and @inspiron 3593 for the suggestions!. These are white or colored tabs on either side of the RAM slot. Push down gently, but firmly, to open the clips. Check and make sure the notch in your stick of RAM lines up with the tooth in the RAM socket. Place one thumb on each end of the RAM card and press down gently but firmly. One end of the card will snap in before the other.

After the update only 24gb of ram memory are recognized by bios and windows. (Bios settings on optimized default). I have 32gb of ram installed, 4x8gm balistix, same model. I'm going to assume you have a Gigabyte GA-X99-UD4 (rev. 1.0) Motherboard. It has 8 DIMM slots and supports up to 128 MB of DDR4-2133 RAM and has 4-channel memory architecture. 1. "My RAM is never full, so I don't need more ram". As Bill Gates allegedly said (though he denies it, quote still floats around like a rumor), " 640K is more memory than anyone will ever.

From what I've been reading, that sounds like possibly a bad RAM stick to me. It sounds like starting with windows 8.1, windows started to flag bad memory as hardware reserved. The piece most commonly identifying whether it was hardware or a software issue being whether or not the BIOS recognized the full memory amount. Not sure if this warrants a new thread but here is an update: I went with 16 GB in a 2 * 8 GB configuration. Alas, the second RAM slot (previously unused) has some visible corrosion and I believe will not read any RAM (my old 4 GB, and the two new 8's all work individually in the first slot, but I can't get the computer to boot with anything in the second slot). Ok so computer in my rig, old as hell I know. Bought a Samsung F3, installed it, got a new SATA CD drive installed that. Had maybe one or two issues posting, but restarting it posted fine. Installed XP on new HD, got everything transferred to new HD and was happy as could be. Last.
I have 32GB of RAM. My computer only recognizes 16GB of it.
No issues during installation, system works fine and fast, but only detects 16Gb. Initially I was using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, tried different solutions, nothing worked, so I upgraded to Windows 10 just in case. The issue persists. It still only uses 2 out of 4 slots. I am pretty sure that the memory is fine, as are slots.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit) Hello! Second RAM slot is not working! I try put there 2 different DDR3 (original Samsung and Kingston). Both of them working fine in the first slot. But not working in the second one. Not working separate in second one, and not working together with the first slot. First slot separate working fine!.

You may have a possible slot problem, try re-seating the RAM stick that is not being detected, if you know which one it is, sometimes the connections in the slot can be intermittent. Bruce. Welcome. Re: Installed 64Gb of RAM, but only 32Gb are usable. Quote from: TomG on 2017-08-30, 13:28:31. A quick google of the "hardware reserved RAM" points to a couple of possible solutions, e.g. "Run-type msconfig, go to boot, advanced options, clear the maximum memory box", or a suggestion that it might be reserved by the onboard graphics, etc. That is strange, the factory memory works in slots 1 and 2, each new memory stick works in slot 1 but not slot 2. You can't buy HP memory for this PC at this time using HP Part Surfer. The HP memory part number is 860399-800. Maybe you can purchase the HP memory on the web. The only suggestion I have is to try Crucial Memory. Crucial Memory.

Things I have tried: 1) Tested all 4 sticks individually in all 4 slots (all were fine). 2) Tried different combinations of slots/sticks (basically, if more than one stick goes in, it doesn't work). 3) Cleared the CMOS. A quick google search tells me that it's probably: 1) A bent pin on the CPU's memory controller.

Answer (1 of 6): No. Some CPU's show a huge jump in performance when all slots are full. RYZEN APU's for example, will not just work smoother but will show jumps in all aspects of the CPU's performance. For example, on a Ryzen APU, if you had four slots and only two eight gb cards, it would be f.

Re: Enable Memory Slot~. « Reply #1 on: November 25, 2007, 05:27:38 AM ». 1. Memory Slots. I'm not sure how many memory slots you have on your motherboard (two or three), but the specs indicate you may only use "two" memory slots. Your machine comes from the factory with 512 MBytes of memory. You should pull it out and use your two 1 GBytes. When I started the laptop and entered the BIOS setup menu, I found that only one of the two memory modules is detected and the laptop registers only 256MB (262144KB) of RAM instead of 512MB (524288KB). Just a side note. In the computer world 1MB=1024KB. That's why 256MB=262144KB and 512MB=524288KB. I tried reseating both memory modules but it. Well you weren't kidding thats one strange problem , task manager says 16gb at the top , then shows 8 as being use able. hmm if both sticks work separately , and you are 100% sure they are in the correct slots , and you have tried every possible slot combination including the exact opposite slots , then there might be some sort of issue with the board or the bios.

New Board is an ASUS X299 Deluxe. In the BIOS I can see both the M2 Drives I've installed. IN windows only the 1Tb drive installed in the first M2 slot, while the 2nd 2Tb drive doesn't appear. I've upgraded to the most current Bios, and installed Samsung's NVMEe driver V3.1. Drive doesnt appear in device manager or admin tools disk management. 2. Use the system information window to view your RAM A faster way to view RAM is through system information. Press "Windows + R" on the desktop, enter "msinfo32", and hit enter. I think one of my ram slots on the motherboard is broken. Troubleshooting. So I just built a pc with a MSI B550 a pro motherboard, and it says to use slots 2 and 4 first for ram. Ive tried this but my computer will only display something when only slot 2 filled and ive have tried both sticks in slot 2 and it works so its not the ram thats the. Empty RAM slots. Open the Task Manager and go to the Performance tab. Select 'Memory' and under the memory graph, look for the Slots used field. It will tell you how many of the total slots are currently in use. In the screenshot below, the system has a total of 2 slots, and one of them is in use. Now that you know how many RAM slots are on. Attach one RAM at a time and boot the PC up. Open the task manager and check your memory usage. Just open the performance tab and check the memory capacity and usage if it aligns with the RAM you just connected to your PC. Do this for each of your RAM sticks by turning off the computer and reconnecting the other RAM stick after booting.

Most likely different voltages will cause the issue. Check if memory is 1.5V (standard) and not higher. You can't have 1.5V working next to a 1.65V memory set, for example. If MHZ or CL timing is different between them, the motherboard attempts to default to the slowest speed too. 3) You have a damaged motherboard RAM slot.
